Breast reduction
Breast reduction
A woman’s breasts are a symbol of femininity and the source of emotional attraction, self-satisfaction and self-confidence. Breasts are also a symbol of fertility and affluence.
Most of the women who decide to undergo breast reduction surgery do so for a specific reason. The most common reasons are shoulder and neck pain that is related to frequent headaches and is caused by incorrect body posture due to the weight of the breasts, irritation at the submammary sulcus area that appears in the form of dermatitis and neurological symptoms, such as numbness or arm pain that can be related to hand stenosis syndromes (e.g. carpal tunnel syndrome).
The patients’ satisfaction after the operation is instantly noticeable. The disappearance of all these pre-surgery symptoms and the youthful appearance of the breasts after the surgery enhance the patient’s confidence. Achieving a symmetrical and proportional outcome is the key to success for this operation. The main goal of this procedure is to achieve breast volume symmetry and make the nipple-areola complex of the one breast symmetrical to the complex of the other.
Brief description of the procedure
The procedure usually requires general anesthesia. There are many techniques for this procedure depending on the case. The aesthetic improvement and the reduction of post-surgery scars have improved in this kind of procedures. Two incisions (a periareolar and a vertical one) are made and the excess skin and fat are removed, along with part of the mammary gland. In certain cases, a third incision is made at the inframammary fold. This procedure can also be combined with a liposuction in order to achieve symmetry and smoothness.
Dr. Varnalidis uses specialized techniques, which require the smallest incisions, in order to achieve the best aesthetic outcome.
