Liposuction

Liposuction

Liposuction (or liposculpture) is one of the most common and popular plastic surgery procedures. Adipose tissue is usually accumulated in specific body areas in men and women. Men deposit body fat in the abdomen area, while women accumulate it in the buttocks and thighs.

Liposuction can be combined with a variety of other procedures. It is usually performed to correct body shape anomalies at the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, knees, back, arms and neck.

Liposuction is also used in non-cosmetic surgery, e.g. in cases of massive weight loss, gynecomastia, macromastia, hyperhidrosis and lipoma removal.

Apart from the classic SAL (suction assisted liposuction) technique, there are other more recent liposuction techniques, such as the PAL (power assisted liposuction) technique that uses a vibrating cannula, the UAL (ultrasound assisted liposuction) technique and the LAL (laser assisted liposuction) technique.

Liposuction is part of the Mommy Makeover procedures.

Brief description of the procedure

The procedure requires local or general anesthesia, depending on the case. Firstly, a specific solution that causes swelling is injected in the patient’s body (tumescent liposuction). Then, liposuction is performed and the accumulated body fat is extracted using atraumatic metal cannulas. Dr. Varnalidis uses various liposuction techniques. The best aesthetic outcome is achieved through the PAL technique in combination with the use of girdle-type of garments.
