Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty)

Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty)

The anterior abdominal wall is one of the parts of the body that are more commonly affected by aging, body weight changes, body fat accumulation and pregnancy.

Tummy tuck is recommended for people who have a lot of excess skin and adipose tissue in the abdomen, which can cause aesthetic and functional problems. This procedure can also be performed on women with normal body weight, who have excess skin and lax muscles in the abdomen area after childbirth, due to the changes that their body went through while they were pregnant.

The excess skin and body fat are surgically removed and the anterior abdominal wall muscles are tightened during this operation, which can be combined with a liposuction in order to achieve perfect symmetry and smoothness.

People who have lost a lot of weight thanks to a diet or after undergoing bariatric surgery can also benefit from this procedure, as the amount of excess skin in their abdomen area can be rather significant and it usually leads to chronic irritation and dermatitis. In these cases, a circumferential body lift (belt lipectomy) is performed in order to remove the excess skin and body fat. Two sessions might be necessary, depending on the severity of each case.

The outcome of the procedure is immediately noticeable. The relief and comfort one feels after the operation, as well as their social life improvement, attest to its effectiveness. Dr. Varnalidis also uses the mini tummy tuck technique in order to achieve immediate results, in cases when there is only a small amount of excess skin and body fat. This technique leaves no scarring.

The tummy tuck is part of the Mommy Makeover procedures.

Brief description of the procedure

This procedure requires general anesthesia. Drawing the incision lines at the right position before the operation is very important, as it determines whether or not the scars will be visible after the surgery. The excess skin and adipose tissue are removed and the muscles of the anterior abdominal wall are tightened. The navel is brought back to the right anatomical position and the incisions are closed.

Dr. Varnalidis makes the incision at a lower position in the pubic area, so that it is covered by the underwear. In certain cases, he also combines the surgery with a liposuction in order to achieve the desired symmetry and avoid extensive incisions.

Safeguarding your health is my number one priority.

Dr. Varnalidis always discusses and explains each procedure step by step. He also offers extensive post-surgery advice and is here to answer any question you might have, so that a smooth recovery and the best functional and aesthetic outcome are achieved.
